SURFER'S CODE
BY SHAUN TOMSON

According to South African surfing champion, Shaun Tomson, catching a wave is a privilege, a commitment and a roaring good time. From years spent riding the world's best swells, Tomson has compiled a set of values, a “code” applicable not just to surfing, but to business, competition, and personal relationships.

Tomson's new book, Surfer's Code: 12 Simple Lessons for Riding Through Life features twelve lessons learned through his career as a world champion surfing competitor from the sands of South Africa, Europe and California.

For Tomson, surfing is religion. According to Shaun, “There is nothing more honorable than making a living by doing something you love. I have always felt a tremendous amount of pride calling myself a surfer.” Tomson's lessons are born of the collective wisdom of the surf community and are a powerful source of inspiration in the face of extraordinary challenges of every day life.

Some of the lessons included in Surfer's Code are:
- I Will Never Turn My Back on the Ocean - I Will Never Fight a Rip Tide - There Will Always Be Another Wave - I Will Watch Out For Other Surfers - I Will Catch a Wave Every Day - All Surfers Are Connected by One Ocean

Shaun Tomson was 1977 World Champion on the International Professional Surfing tour. A native of South Africa, he spent fourteen years on the World Tour (1976-1989), nine of those years rated in the top six and 12 contest wins including a record-setting six-year winning streak (1972-77) in the Gunston 500 in South Africa. He has been featured in more than 40 surf videos, was profiled in an Outdoor Life Network documentary series (1998), and starred as a surf journalist in Tristar's picture In God's Hands. function
